Description:
Blooming late spring to midsummer, iris provide a beautiful transition between spring bulbs and summer flowers. Rising above the flat sword-shaped foliage, the flower consists of three inner petals (standards), usually upright, three outer petals (falls). Throughout history, the “fleur-de-lis”, symbolizing the iris bloom has been used to adorn coats-of-arms and banners of royal houses and provincial governments. Preferring full sun, with various soil, moisture and depth requirements, depending upon the variety, iris make excellent cut flowers. To propagate, after flowering trim foliage to a 6-inch fan and cut the rhizome cleanly into sections. Each piece should have several buds and healthy roots. Many varieties of iris naturally grow on the Mediterranean hills and mountainsides and in the fields of the Holy Land.
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to G–d, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. - 1 Peter 2:9
