Description:
Able to withstand long, dry summers by relying on dew fall for moisture, the grapevine provides not only fresh fruit, but raisins and wine as well. In the Old Testament, the vine, synonymous with food and rejoicing, many times symbolizes Israel herself. While pleading with G–d for help, the psalmist cries out:
You brought a vine out of Egypt; you drove out the nations and planted it. Watch over this vine, the root your right hand has planted, the son you have raised up for yourself. - Psalm 80:8,15
