Description:
Since antiquity, the menorah (Hebrew for candelabrum or lampstand) has been considered the main symbol of Judaism. Exodus 25 gives precise instructions for the design of the Tabernacle’s lampstand. Made up of seven lamps, with six branches extending from a center stem (three on each side), and embellished with a motif of almond buds and blossoms, it was to be hammered out of one piece of pure gold. Modern menorahs found in synagogues and homes symbolize, but are not exact replicas, of that first lampstand. In Revelation, the Lord’s presence among the serven churches is symbolized by the lampstand and in chapter twenty-one, John tells us that neither lamps nor the sun nor the moon are necessary in the New Jerusalem “for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.”
I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. - John 8:12
