Description:
Considered the fundamental declaration of Jewish faith, the Shema, a prayer beginning with the words from Deuteronomy 6, affirms the beliefin one G–d. Recited both morning and night, the Shema, is also inscribed on minature scrolls and placed inside the tefillin (a small box attached to thin leather straps worn on the left arm and forehead) and a mezuzah (a small case attached to doorposts of homes). The letter shin, the first letter of El Shaddai, “Almighty G–d”, is written on the outside of the mezuzah.
Hear, O Israel: The L–rd our G–d is one L–rd: And thou shalt love the L–rd thy G–d with all thine heart, and with all they soul, and with all thy might. - Deuteronomy 6:4,5
